About Me

Bill Elk Whistle Neal
Osiyo, my friends and relations! Let us live our lives by the Original Instructions! I am a master Native American flutist, storyteller, activist, director of the Elk Whistle Ensemble, former Native American Spiritual Leader in a CA state prison, and 22-year environmental professional. Some people know me as Elk Whistle. The Tongva, whose land I share, gave me a name in their language: "Mah-nah-che-a-shun" - "He Sings With His Heart". I've been spoken of as the "Keeper of Songs" and have played in every LA World Festival of Sacred Music since it began; repeat engagements at major venues, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ford Amphitheatre, the Orange County Performing Arts Center; museums including the Skirball, the Autry, the Getty, the Southwest Museum, the Museum of Man, the Museum of Tolerance, the Heard Museum; music venues like the El Rey, the Coachhouse, the Troubador; most powwows in Southern California; music festivals like the Millpond Traditional Music Festival, the California Traditional Music Society festival, the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, and the Idyllwild Native American Cowboy Jubilee. Find me on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google+.
